The Chronophage
Stephen Hawking will return from the CERN collider today to unveil the new clock at Corpus Christi College in Cambridge, England. The unusual clock was designed by inventor John Taylor.
For all its apparent eccentricity, the clock is based on solidly traditional clockwork - unusual in these days of digital electronic clocks. It has taken seven years’ research and construction, incorporates si More..x patented inventions, and is predicted to run for at least 250 years assuming the world lasts that long.
Engineer Stewart Huxley refuses to reveal the secret of its tricks, which include the pendulum occasionally apparently catching and stopping for a heartbeat, and then swinging faster to catch up.

Announcing The Telectroscope!!!
I was feeling whistfully steampunk after my last post so you can imagine my absolute delight when I came across this story on the BBC.
The picture above is one end of a 'tunnel' from Brooklyn Bridge in New York to Tower Bridge in London and it's called a 'Telectroscope'!
As Londoners on the banks of the Thames looked down the tunnel they could see a group of New Yorkers looking back at them and waving. Messages were passed using white-boards and Manchester United were told that they 'suck'!
The inventor of the Telectroscope tells us that it works by utilising a tunnel in the Earths crust and mirrors.....but is more likely to be fibre optics and a good imagination.
But do I care!!??
Look at it!!!!
Isn't it beautiful!

Evel Knievel Has Leapt His Last
Evel Knievel has jumped his last, leaped the void, rocketed off this mortal coil!
His death at the age of just 69 was announced today by his grand-daughter.
He had been ill for some time.
I remember growing up with Evel. I watched his stunts on TV and was even the proud owner of the Evel Knievel stunt bike toy!
I'm surprised how sad I am at his passing.
RIP Evel.
